The accommodation

Opened in 2005, Rangiputa Retreat has two bedrooms, separate bathroom with large shower, an open-plan lounge and dining area, private BBQ, extensive decks and sleeps five to six persons.

The master bedroom has a new comfortable queen-size bed and large glass bi-fold doors which open out onto the deck with a fabulous view of Rangaunu Harbour.

The second bedroom has a new bunk set with queen bed and a single bed above. A spare mattress and a port-a-cot is available too if required.

The bathroom has a large high-pressure shower, toilet and vanity unit.

The open-plan lounge has two couches, tv, cd / radio / cassette, DVD player and free inhouse DVDs.

The kitchen has a gas hob, small bench top oven, full size fridge/freezer and is fully equipped for six.

All bed linen, tea, coffee, towels and flannels are supplied (excepting beach towels).

A shell-covered courtyard provides a private place to have breakfast, BBQ or to get out of the hot sun.

There is a clothesline, car or boat wash-down area and off-street parking.

For the kids we have a trampoline, playhouse, farm pond with a dinghy (eels included) and farm animals to feed and pet.

A large fish smoker and filleting area is provided to process your catch. Filleting, smoking and freezing services are also available.

All that you will need to bring is your food, beach gear and beach towels, fishing gear, torch and cameras.

Gumboots are also recommended in winter time.

How to get here

We are located in the far north of New Zealand's North Island. Rangiputa Retreat is on the beautiful unspoiled Karikari Peninsula, 10 minutes off State Highway 10.

By air:
There are four daily return flights from Auckland to Kerikeri Airport (about 55 minutes drive) operated by Air New Zealand Link.

Northland mapBy road:
Travelling here by car by the direct route using State Highway 1 and State Highway 10, the journey time from Auckland airport is about four and a half hours without stops. Travelling the Twin Coast Discovery Highway - a world-class touring route leaving from, and returning to, Auckland - requires at least two days in each direction to visit the many interesting and beautiful attractions along the way.

Follow State Highway 1 north from Whangarei and turn right on to State Highway 10 at Pakaraka junction and follow the signs to Doubtless Bay. An hour's drive will get you through Mangonui and Coopers Beach and you will reach the turn right for the Karikari Peninsula. Follow the road for 12 kms. and turn left at the lake on to Rangiputa Road. You will find us on the left after 3.5 kms.

By sea:
Anchor in the beautiful Rangaunu Harbour (or in front of Rangiputa Retreat) and we will come and get you. Alternatively, anchor at Mill Bay or Mangonui (transfers available). There are many safe and tranquil bays to anchor nearby.
